Khalil Rabah: 50,320 Names

Artvehicle 9/Recommended

25th January 2007 — 24th March 2007

ArtSchool Palestine presents the first solo exhibition of work by Khalil Rabah. Rabah, a major figure in Palestinian contemporary art, has created a unique installation of new works, specially conceived for Brunei Gallery, which include video, photography and text-based work. Rabah has become known internationally for his evolving project 'The Palestinian Museum for Natural History and Humankind' that parodied the practice and policies of existing national museums in order to reflect upon the maintenance and spectacle of memory. Rabah's work is shown alongside 'A Future for the Past: Petrie's Palestinian Collection'. This exhibition celebrates the diversity and rich heritage of ancient Palestine with the significant finds of pottery and jewellery made by the archaeologist Sir Flinders Petrie, Professor of Egyptology at UCL, who spent many years working in the area around modern Gaza in the 1920s and 1930s.
